A hypocritical post in sentiment but whatever. I, like many, hate to have bands or artists forced upon me by others. My instinctual response is to brush aside the suggestion, and bypass listening to this musical sampling, by listening to other artists whom I find.
However, the hypocrisy lies in the fact that I am suggesting you listen Elliott Smith. I know, 'what right have I to suggest what you listen to, right?'.
Here's the thing, I myself went through the exact same thought processes, initially sceptical and unimpressed.
Over a number of months, my opinion has of course changed. I found something so exhilarating yet soulful and compassionate about his music which kept me listening intently for hours. A real underrated musician and songwriter, a rarity in the modern age.
Give it a shot, maybe you'll enjoy it.
